A little island not more than 20 minutes away by boat from the sleepy village of Marang. Pulau Kapas is a small island, just over 2km long and 1km at its widest point. Most resorts are clustered together on two strips of white sandy beaches facing the mainland, whereas the rest of the island is largely forested harbouring lots of small mammals, birds, insects and reptiles.

Handily the beach right in front of the place we'd chosen to stay, Kapas Beach Chalet. We chose to pay a small amount extra for a beach front chalet. When the guy said beach front he really meant it as we were right on the beach. The place was very nice, simple A-frame chalets again with hammocks and swings set up on the trees in the grounds and on a nice stretch of beach protected from the wind.

Kapas island was very nice. I think probably my preconception of the South East Asian beach was something like this. Several little beaches were accessible directly from one another. At the Northern end of the beaches with accomodation was a track up over the hill with ropes to pull you up and leading to a sheltered little cove on the other side. The water was crystal clear and the island carpeted with jungle. We spent a couple of days, in what is becoming a pattern, sitting reading and walking on the beach. We wanted to go snorkelling but were warned that the jellyfish season was still underway. Something I found out to my cost when scrambling over some rocks. I splashed through an inlet on the other side and bang! Pain on my foot so I instantly jumped out of the water and saw through the stirred up sand a couple of big jellyfish, their orange tentacles trailing out behind them. It stung like buggery. What with that and the monkeys, I may have to have a re-think on my position on wildlife. Quelle: http://getyourbootson.bizarro.org.uk...apas-ouch.html

For dinner, we were at the KBC, Kapas Beach Chalet. Highly recommend it... Lovely Lovely place, with lovely people...

Check it out...

hi SummerJune
I was in Gem Island in July and was there again last weekend. It's a very nice place, relaxing, nicely decorated rooms with full facilities. There is a turtle sanctuary there and you can also drop by Kapas Island which is 5 minutes away by boat for snorkeling. Drop by Kapas Beach Chalet for lunch. The owner took us fishing and cooked the fish we caught for lunch. Call Amran at KBC, 60199682331. (He is not online)

Gem Wellness Spa & Island Resort
http://www.malaysia-islands.com/html...isle-spa.shtml

OVERVIEW
An island known only to a few, Gemia Island covers about 9 acres and its closest neighbour is Pulau Kapas. The
island is a 15-minute boat ride away from the Marang. Gemia Island retains its peaceful, mysterious and quiet
atmosphere and is the nest site for sea eagles, reef herons and many other birds. In an effort to save wildlife one of
the beachs on the island is used as a turtle hatchery.
Gemia Island is the few places where turtles (including the giant Leatherback) come ashore to lay their eggs. On the
island the green turtle is the most common. But the Hawksbill and Olive Ridley turtle are regular visitors.
The rugged rock face of Gemia Island invites exploration and provides an ideal spot for bird watching and has an
abundance of fascinating marine life. Gemia is the tiny island surrounded by coral garden that abundance with marine
life.
Gemia Island located about 800 metres away from Kapas Island. Transport is by boat and it takes 15 minutes to get
there from Marang Jetty. The jetty is 18 kms away from Kuala Terengganu, the capital of Terengganu. If you are a
lover of sea sports, activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing and and squid fishing are
available.

LOCATION:
The small island of Gemia is accessible by boat from the main jetty in Marang (note: not Merang), about 20 kilometres south of Kuala Terengganu. The journey by speed boat takes about 20 minutes or so. The island is located just about north of Pulau Kapas, another popular island destination. Boat fare is about RM60 for roundtrip per person.

DESCRIPTION:
The resort is located on Pulau Gemia, some 20 minutes by boat from Marang jetty (not Merang). It is the only resort on this small and idyllic island of Gemia, which is separated from the more popular resort island of Kapas by a shallow water channel.

The resort was previously known as Gem Isles Resort. After a thorough refurbishment project, it is now known as Gem Wellness Spa & Island Resort.

To me, this resort is one of the best kept secrets for island frequenters. Its overall "floating village" design a la the world-renown Pangkor Laut Resort with private beaches to call your own and pretty darn good spa offering at the Tunsita Wellness Spa.

FACILITIES:

There are 40 water villas (or known as Superior Terrace) units, 10 Hideaway Villas fronting the white sandy area, and 2 Premier Villas. All rooms come with air-conditioner, hot shower and cable TV with limited channel selections .

What do I think of the room? Shockingly fabulous! I had my initial reservation whether or not the room will look like anything as advertised on the brochures. That feeling died away as soon as I stepped into my room. Timber strip floors, heaven-sent bed with fancy mosquito net, sea-facing private balcony with lazy chair hung from the roof , elaborate yet minimalist finishing especially in the bathroom, etc. Enough said, I'll let my photos do the talking [Room Photo Gallery]

Other than that, you can pamper yourself with the spa treatment at one of the water villas which is converted into a massage parlour, complete with traditional outdoor flower bath. There is also a water-based activity centre where you can rent a kayak to circle the small island. Snorkels and life jackets are also available for rental.

ATTRACTIONS:
Nothing much here, except peace and tranquility. You can also see a turtle breeding pool right in front of the main restaurant. Apparently these turtles are hatched within the resort's compound and are put into this temporary water enclosure until they grow a bit bigger before they are naturally released into the ocean.

The beaches of the island are also very nice for sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling.

PRICING:
The 2D1N fullboard package starts at RM288 per person based on twin-sharing basis. That will include all meals, one-night stay in a superior water villa and roundtrip boat transfer If you opt for room-only package like I did, the resort currently runs a special offer of RM239 per night in a superior water villa, inclusive of breakfast at Samudra Restaurant. You may need to think about forking some extra money for lunch or dinner at the resort's only restaurant because I felt that the prices were very expensive .

3D / 2N Gemia - Gem Wellness Spa & Island Resort Package (valid until 31 oct 2005), Twin Sharing: RM599 (ca. 66€/Nacht/2 Personen)
INCLUDE
-2 nights Water Villa accommodation at Gem Wellness Spa & Island Resort
-Return boat transfer Marang Jetty / Gemia Island / Marang Jetty
-Welcome Drink
-Fruit basket
-Aromatic incense candles and toiletries
-1 special Tusita Spa Therapy except for child
-2 small bottles of mineral water in each room

Pulau Kapas (Fortsetzung des 1. Postings):
Forum: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt...&l.l=138eec&t=

This breathtaking scenery was taken from the hill, where the lighthouse is situated:

Pulau Kapas (Kapas Island) and its neighbouring island Pulau Gemia are two popular day excursion and overnight destinations for locals and foreign tourists seeking a quick gateway to a relaxing lifestyle on the white sandy beaches.

The reefs surrounding Pulau Kapas ranges in depth from 3-20 metres. It has good marine life and coral despite being located so close to the mainland (only 6km from the coastal village of Marang). Varieties of fish that can be seen here include Moorish idols, Wrasses, and Butterfly fishes.

The best time to go diving is between the months of May and October as the visibility is excellent. However, it is best not to visit the island between the months of November and February as it is affected by the northeast monsoon. There can be days when the rain is heavier than usual and the waves can get quite big.

During the months of April to August, green and hawksbill turtles come onshore to lay eggs. Pulau Kapas has also become a popular place for squid fishing especially in the month of June.

Visitors to the island can choose from a variety of accommodations ranging from the up-market Gem Isles Resort to basic A-frames. It can get crowded during weekends and public holidays.

Getting TO (Nov 13, 2005): Take bus from kuala Terengganu to Marang, which cost about RM1.50. Generally, the earliest boat to Pulau Kapas is at 9.00am, but it depends on the number of passengers and the weather condition. The round-trip boat fare to Pulau Kapas is RM30. Dont forget t o make earlier appointment for your return trip.

Unique Qualities: Absolutely good value! Marvellous peoples(dutch guy and chinese woman with their daughter) are running the place, and there is a bar that sells alcohol, wich is not very usual on the east-coast. Also the food they make, is just grrrrreat!!
There are different kind of accomodations, from chalets to small cottages. We were in the chalet and it was just lovely, so close to nature.

Possible to rent diving gears and boat.

Pulao Tioman

http://www.tioman.com.my/
http://wikitravel.org/en/Tioman
http://<br /> <br /> Pulau Tioman ...ioman.html</a>
http://www.travelblog.org/Asia/Malay...log-23601.html

http://www.marcopolo.de/asien/malays...ghlight_9.html

---------------------
Tioman was beautiful...stayed on a quiet beach at Tioman Beauty Beach resort (www.myoutdoor.com.my), went snorkeling (scuba diving also available), had a bonfire on the beach with the staff and other guests, and got lots of sunshine from the beach and out on a boat. Just envision Jurassic Park or Gilligan's Island to get an idea of how beautiful and undeveloped it is. Apparently the film South Pacific was filmed there way back in the day. I'd believe it! Its also closer to Singapore if you're starting south. 4 hours bus (16 ringgets) from Singapore to Mersing and then about an hour on a boat (30 ringgets) from Mersing to Tioman. The bus from Mersing to KL takes about 6 hours (20 ringgets), but there are also flights from Tioman to KL for about 150 ringgets. The only thing with Tioman is you'll either have to bring your own alcohol for some resorts or trek to the duty free shop near the air strip to get some.

Erfahrungsbericht von grabfrosch über Tioman Island
7. April 2003

Produktbewertung des Autors:
Pro: günstig, leicht von Singapur zu erreichen
Kontra: dreckige Strände, vergammelte Lodges, unfreundliche Atmosphäre

Empfehlenswert? nein

Kompletter Erfahrungsbericht
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Die Insel
*******************************

Klares Wasser.
Langweilig!
Was will man mehr.
Kein Nachtleben.

I don't think the mosquitos are the problem. It's biting flies on the beach. The itch is about 10 times worse than a mosquito bite. After 4 days, it was almost unbearable!!! Be warned!!
If you are sensitive to sand flies or intend lying on the beach, use sun tan oil or anything oily i.e. baby oil to protect your skin.

Just like mosquitoes, adult females need our blood to mature the eggs (the males don't bite). Air movement affects to the activity of sandflies , and the adults of most species do not bite when there is a breeze or flowing air . The University of Florida Extension recommended that people "increase air mvement in screened prorches by using high velocity fans " to help prevent bites.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandfly

Oil is the answer to the Sand Fly. Repellants, no matter what they may claim, really seem to have no effect. Oil stops them completely. It is irrelevant what oil, cooking, baby, etc., but we recommend sun oil to avoid being cooked. Do not substitute it for your regular sun lotion simply put it on over the top. The best tip in the world for Sand Flies is to by a bottle of spray on tanning oil , pour a little out, add a small bottle of Tee Tree Oil (=Teebaumöl) and a few drops of liquid disinfectant (e.g. Detol) (deutsch: z. Spray this on and no sand fly will touch you! The recipe comes from Australia, where they really know about sand fly problems, and is known as bush oil over there. (Amazing what I've been finding out since Richard started boarding school in Perth!)

Note: This is a great tip if you are traveling anywhere in the world that has Sandflies. My first encounter was in West Africa about a hundred years ago (or so it seems). Don't forget the mainland jetties are quite often the place where you get attacked and not the actual beach that you are going to. If in doubt put the oil on your feet and ankles before you get there.

P.S. Some recent guests from New Zealand said they expected to be greeted with swarms of Sand Flies, as encountered in the South Island back home, and almost didn't come. They asked me to point out that for most people the Sand Flies are not noticeable and much of the time they are not there at all!

DETOL ANTISEPTIC: Dettol is one of those chemicals which we instantly recognise by its distinctive smell.

Dettol Liquid contains Chloroxylenol
CHLOROXYLENOL | Chlorxylenol | | 88-04-0 | 201-793-8 | Phenol, 4-Chloro-3,5-dimethyl- | VI/1,26 | Konservierungsstoff |
Synonyma:
Chloroxylenol (INCI)
4-Chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol
Parachlormetaxylenol

Ist ein Phenolderivat, Antiseptikum. Verw: als Konservierungsmittel in Kosmetika, Arzneimittel zur äusserlichen Anwendung, Aknemittel, Desinfektionslösung, technisches Konservierungsmittel in Druckereien, Leder-, Textil- und Metallindustrie

4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenol = the molecule "dettol".
Only 4.8% of dettol consists of this molecule (C8H9ClO) with CAS number 88-04-0, the rest being made up of Pine Oil, isopropyl alcohol, castor oil soap, caramel and water. Dettol is found in a number of products under a number of different names, for example as 0.5% chloroxylenol in the powder Zeasorb used in the treatment of athletes' foot, and as the quaintly named parachlorometaxylenol in Vionex the antimicrobrial toutelles.
only slightly soluble in water it has a good solubility in alcohols

Sebamed Clear Face Anti Pickel Gel (PZN: 0837063):

--------------

- Tebamol, PZN7279979, Inhalt: 10 ml (4-5€) http://www.unserekleineapotheke.de/w...9/Tebamol.html
- Sebamed Clear Face Anti Pickel Gel (PZN: 0837063) (4-5€)

Pulao Lang Island
http://www.langtengah.com.my/
Pulau Lang Tengah or Lang Tengah Island off the coast of Terengganu is one of the nation's well-kept secrets. Its arresting beauty can easily captivate you while you are there. Crystal clear sea-water, pristine beaches and untouched tropical jungle. Its arresting beauty lingers forever in your memory. An island you can call your own, private and tranquil.

Pulau Lang Tengah Travel Guide: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...ng_Tengah.html

Blue Coral Island Resort, beautifully situated on the isolated Lang Tengah Island. Stroll along the long sandy bay, snorkelling or scuba-diving around the coral reef that starts from the edge of the beach are just perfect for a relaxing holiday.

LONELY PLANET "The island's three resorts are spaced out on the west coast, and offer a variety of package deals; discount are sometimes available, while Ping Anchorage in Kuala Terengganu can arrange reasonably priced packages."

June 21, 2003:
This island have wonderful coral reefs..better than her sister islands of Redang and Perhentian. I saw all the hard corals that I read from a poster (Hard Corals Of Malaysia), and there's the Blue Corals..which look like a huge bluish purple brocolli which can be found just infront of Blue Coral Island Resort. Lots of triggerfishes and parrotfishes. I saw butterflyfishes, rabbit fishes, groupers, gobbies, baby sharks, blennies, and some that I can't name. Sponges like barrel sponge can be easily spotted.

September 20, 2004:
This island have wonderful corals...You get to see the Blue Corals..which look like a huge bluish purple brocolli .. Lots of triggerfishes and parrotfishes.... I saw butterflyfishes, rabbit fishes, groupers, gobbies, baby sharks, turtles and some that I don't know the names. The water was clear and we were definitely unprepared for the amount of corals. From the beach to as far as we dared swim out, the seabed was a tangled growth of all sorts of corals. We have round disc like corals, cylindrical corals, mossy corals and the common tree branch-like corals. In short, it was amazing. The marine life around the island was also unbelievable, prompting one of us to quip that it was like an aquarium, except we were swimming in it! Oh, you'll definitely see lots of fishes, eels, sea cucumbers, sea urchins and more. If you're lucky, you will catch a glimpse of Hawksbill and Green Turtles as well as black-tip sharks. Some of the fishes will come and nibble at you though so don't say we didn't warn you if you get molested by a school of colorful fish! If you'll like to create a feeding frenzy, you can obtain a slice of bread from the restaurant and scatter the pieces into the ocean. Just be prepared with a camera to catch the chaos of fishes! The depth of the water is a nice gentle slope out to about thirty or so meters and then it starts getting deeper quite fast. However, from where we were (which was quite far out), there seems to be an undersea shelf so it doesn't really get much deeper. Unless you are scuba-diving there's nothing much to do snorkelling that far out.

-------
Marine Park at Redang Island: There are more colourful fishes at the place. You get to see giant garoupa, murray eels, friendly fishes and the fishes are not afraid to swim near you. For only RM$5 per adult, it's worth the trip there!
------
October 27, 2004: Lang Tengah's main attraction is its sea. The water is clear and there are many fishes and corals in the sea. You have the option to go snorknelling around the island. The boat departs every morning 9.30am from the resort. You can also snorknel in waters in front of the resort. I got to see clams, rock fish, beautiful squid dancing in the water, some baby sharks, turtles, etc.
-----------
There are only these few activities
1. Bring a ball and play at the volleyball court
2. Snorkel
3. Bring a book to read
4. Jungle trek (guided, weather permitting)
5. Stare out to the sea
6. Bring a Frisbee to play
7. Bring your cards to play
As you can see, it mostly depends on what you have brought to do. They don't have anything there.
--------------
February 12, 2006: You should absolutely plan to spend time underwater, or at least looking at the underwater life whilst on Lang Tengah. I have visited many beautiful islands, and the water clarity, coupled with coral gardens and diversity of marine life make it a very special place. You are almost certain to encounter sharks, even whilst snorkelling. What an amazing experience, to share the water with sharks in this beautiful place. The back side of the island, around the other side from the resorts is especially nice. Ask the boat driver to take you to the area of amazing 'green sea' on the opposite side of the island. It's a long way from any development around this island, and far enough away from Redang to be totally unspoilt.

Redang Lang Island Resort:

This is back to basic place. The room simply consist of 2 queen size bedroom with blanket and 2 pillows on each bed, ceiling fan, aircon and attached bathroom. NO tv, NO radio, NO wardrobe, NO fridge. If u choose the deluxe room, you will have water heater. There are no sea view rooms. Rating for Room is 5/10..

On the resort, there's only KTV room (where all will sing openly, no private room), beach volleyball, TV room, mahjong, carrom, pool table... It could be boring at night.. Rating for Facilities is 5/10..

It's not a high class place but the staff are very friendly and helpful... Good service too...Rating for Service is 8/10...

They will provide the guest with breakfast, lunch, tea break and dinner. But do not expect a continental buffet. They normally serve plain rice with 3 to 4 local dishes.. sometimes they will serve noodles.. Rating for Food is 5/10...

They also organise outdoor activities like diving. snorkelling, jungle trekking and fishing. Rating for Activities is 8/10...

Unique Qualities: The staff will clear all the dead corals on the beach. Other resorts can't be bothered to clear them.

If u got no friends to play beach volleyball with you, get the staff to join you for a game.

The staff are great and always ensure that you have a great time.

Just ask them and you got it.

My boyfriend wanna see more sharks and they brought him for shark seeing.. And everyday, they will bring us to different locations for snorkelling.. So, you get to see more marines life..
