Japan's Softbank wins more new cellphone subscribers than rivals in September
TOKYO (Thomson Financial) - Japan's Softbank Corp beat rivals KDDI Corp and NTT DoCoMo Inc in attracting new cellphone subscribers in September, aided by an aggressive marketing campaign, according to data released Friday by the Telecommunications Carriers Association.
Softbank Mobile (Nachrichten) added a net 198,300 subscribers in September, while KDDI gained a net 158,000 subscribers to its 'au' and 'tu-ka' services. NTT DoCoMo added a net 37,500 subscribers.
Softbank has now beat its rivals in attracting new subscribers for the fifth straight month.
At the end of September, Softbank Mobile had subscriber base of 17.05 million, NTT DoCoMo had 52.94 million and KDDI had 29.22 million.
