Wall Street: Pessimisten haben trotz guter Daten die Oberhand
Der Mittwoch hatte mit starken Zahlen und einem Milliardengeschenk von Microsoft so gut begonnen, doch am Ende setzten sich doch wieder die Pessimisten durch. Der Dow-Jones-Index ging mit einem Minus von 102 Zählern oder 1 Prozent auf 10 046 Punkten aus dem Handel, die Nasdaq verlor 42 Zähler oder 2,2 Prozent auf 1874 Punkte.
Alan Greenspan wiederholte am Mittag vor dem Repräsentantenhaus seinen Bericht, den er schon am Vortag dem Senat gegeben hatte. Kritiker fanden sich viele: Einerseits habe Greenspan erneut nicht viel neues berichtet, hieß es, andererseits habe er sich erneut vor klaren Aussagen in bezug um die Defizitproblematik gedrückt.
Diese Kritik war angemessen, und so setzten sich im Handel letztlich die Zweifler durch, und es ging abwärts. Unter den Blue Chips konnten sich nur noch diejenigen Werte im grünen Bereich halten, die am Morgen explizit gute Zahlen gemeldet hatten:
