Slovenia: Drama on LJSE intensifies 14:29 - 15 April 2008 Prices on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange approached clearance sale territory on Tuesday, with brutal losses by most big names dragging the SBI 20 benchmark index 343.86 points lower to 7,368.49. The SBI TOP index of the ten top Slovenian companies shed 77.03 points to 1,613.99. Slovenia: Market Daily Review 09:03 - 15 April 2008 Gloom intensified on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange on Monday as tanking blue chips showed no sign of recovery. Indeed, several of the big names lost more than 6% , dragging the SBI 20 benchmark index 342.57 points lower to 7,712.35. The SBI TOP index of the ten top Slovenian companies closed 81.25 points lower at 1,691.02. Airport operator Aerodrom Ljubljana was hit hardest, losing nearly 7% to EUR 92.12, and chemical-through-tourism conglomerate Sava dived 6.65% lower to EUR 404.68. Ennergy company Petrol was meanwhile down 6.25% to EUR 501.13, holding Istrabenz lost 6.11% to EUR 82.58, and pharma company Krka, which was the most traded item with volumes topping EUR 7.66, shed 5.43% to EUR 86.11. Other big names contributing to the bleak day on the stock market were national telco Telekom Slovenije, which was down 2.93% to EUR 228.05, retailer Mercator, which lost 2.72% to EUR 255.82, and NKBM bank (-1.70% to EUR 30.12). The loser of the day on the free market was investment fund NFD 1, which lost 2.12% to EUR 2.26, while the PIX investment fund index was dragged 95 points lower (1.56%) to 5,991.16. In a sellout day, brokers wrapped up EUR 13.7m in deals. Slovenia: Feb construction value up 12.8% m/m 14:21 - 15 April 2008 In comparison with January 2008, the value of construction put in place in February 2008 increased by 12.8%. As regards buildings it decreased by 0.3% while as regards civil engineering it increased by 27.9%, according to data released by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia. In comparison with February 2007, the value of construction put in place in February 2008 increased by 41.6%. As regards buildings it increased by 43.8% and as regards civil engineering by 39.7%. Slovenia: Net wages slightly up in Feb 12:43 - 15 April 2008 The average net wage in Slovenia in February stood at EUR 864.50, which was 0.07% more than the previous month. The average gross wage was down EUR 0.46 over January, standing at EUR 1,325.73, the Statistics Office said, Slovene Press Agency reports. Average monthly gross wages for February, compared to January, increased the most in public administration and defence (by 6.4%), where adjustments were made in line with amendments to the salary system in the public sector act, which increased wages retroactively as of 1 January. Thus, wages were also up in other public sector areas: 4.7% in education, and 1% in health and social care. Significant decreases were meanwhile recorded in electricity, gas and water supply (by 3.9%). |
